Waynes Mystery Wander 07-09-08

Today was the mystery trip. we had no idea where we would end up, but with Wayne (beachbums) leading the trip, we would be guaranteed of some quality Four Wheel Driving. we were not disappointed. We met up at the Pinjarra bakery around 09:00, 4 wagons and 3 utes (all mighty GU patrols) Waynes ute claimed the lowrider tag before we even left the carpark! an uneventful trip down South West Highway until we reached Logue Brook Road when we decided we had had enough of the blacktop and hit the gravel and aired down. From there it becomes a bit of a blur of up and down tracks, picking the best lines to get over rocks without damaging anything or getting stuck, and through some mini mud holes that looked innocent enough to take a more adventurous route, where I came unstuck, (or should that be STUCK). The passengers side step and both tyres on that side disappeared into a foul smelling bottomless mudpit. a short winch later I was back on the move again and tasked with writing the trip report. 3 patrols later another wagon fell into the same hole, a little panel damage later it was snatched out and we were on the go again. A little later on Wayne pulled over and pointed up a rutted track going up a hill, My old HiLux used to make it up there! There was no choice someone had to do it. The mighty 2.8Litre wagon (sorry I'm hopeless with names) volunteered and with a never say die attitude and right boot, conquered the hill. then Chris put his ute with the new 35" BFG's up and over it, knocking off one of his new recovery points in the process. Then it was time for lunch and a quick look over each others vehicles then even more challenging tracks afterwards, where we put the cars over on some crazy angles with the help of spotters, often lifting wheels and balancing in mid air.
All up it was a great day, little damage and lots of fun. Thanks to Wayne for organising it and leading us and to Chris for bringing up the tail, and to all who made it a successful day. will try to put some pics up tomoro.
