Winter in the Swan Valley - 19.07.2020
« on: 19 July, 2020, 06:29:31 PM »
The Trip Leader was running late and received a phone call from Big Col 'where are you', but we made it in the nick off time. We gathered at Lilac Hill Park carpark in some new variations of the Nissan Patrol, there were Nissan Territory, Focus and Cruiser.
Once we'd signed in, had some chit chats we made our way to Whistlers Chocolate Company on Great Northern Highway for some morning tea, chocolate sampling and purchases.
From there we headed down the highway to The House of Honey.  On arrival our group was directed over to the honey tasting station with Kim for some sampling of different types of honey. There were a few mixed reactions on which ones we liked and didn't like. In two separate groups we proceeded to the mead tasting room where Sonia had selected three types of mead for us to try and explained the ingredients used, where sourced and how processed. In my group we tasted a couple extra meads. My favourites were the Spiced Mead which can be served chilled or warmed and the liqueur that Dee suggested. Looked around the shop at other products on offer, more purchasing and some members had a photo shoot opportunity.
We added a visit to the Mondo Nougat Factory & Cafe and Morish Nuts as we had some spare time up our sleeves before lunch, more sampling.
Made our way to Elmars in the Valley for lunch, the atmosphere was relaxing with live music playing, meals were yummy and good conversation.
Our last stop for the trip was Oggies Ice Creamy, if we could possibly fit anymore food in for the day.  No tea required tonight :)
Thanks to everyone that came to the Swan Valley for the day.

WINTER IN THE SWAN VALLEY - Sunday 19th July 2020

Its was a cold start, but great turn out, for a fun day driving and tasting our way around the Swan Valley.

We had 5 cars - not all Nissans or 4X4's.
We had 11 Adults & 3 kids plus little squirt, come along.

We started off with a much needed hot (chilli) chocolate at Whistlers Chocolate. Chocolate was drunk, taste tested & bought. A great first stop.

We then moved onto The House of Honey, where honey (Blackbutt is a must), and Mead was tasted. Honey & Mead was bought.

We then made our way to taste Nougat & Mourish Nuts (Wasabi Macadamias - just saying....yum!). Nuts were bought.

It was time for lunch. After a little drive we arrived at Elmar's, where meals were ordered, and food was eaten.

Food in bellies, the last stop for the day was Oggies Icecream 🍦. A nice sweet end to a great day.

Thank you to everyone who came and Kylie (Two Trolls) for organising.
Not alot of pictures, but some attached (thanks Kylie for your photos).

DID YOU KNOW......Great Northern Highway links Western Australia's capital city Perth with its northernmost port, Wyndham. With a length of almost 3,200 kilometres (2,000 mi), it is the longest highway in Australia

So you made it in the "nick off" time?
It seems you didn't end up nicking off.. but stuck around.. and enjoyed the trip anyway?
You're never too old to learn something stupid.
