2020 WPC Gymkhana - Trip Report

2020 WPC Gymkhana

Well Murphy stepped in at the eleventh hour and due to being a bit crook on Thursday 24th September and being guest of the Fiona Stanley Hospital Emergency Department on Friday 25th September I did not depart for the campsite until 1000 Saturday 26th September.

I arrived at approximately 1130 to discover that BigCol, Lorraine and Catherine had arrived on the Thursday, Superjacs and Mrs Superjac, SKEM and Estella, Dman, Sbrair, Irene (his partner) and Chris (his dad) had all arrived on Friday.

Tim had arrived earlier on Saturday followed by myself, Iffy and Goose and then IsuzuDave and Rina. We also had day trippers in SteveNDee and their three children along with Kinang and Mrs Kinang and Squirt.

After setting up camp we all settled around the camp fire and caught up. Due to my late arrival I had cancelled the bush university and postponed the quiz until Sunday. Whilst we were catching up and chatting the nibbles came out and the atmosphere slipped in to a very relaxing feeling. Just what the doctor ordered. A couple of peoples made large dinners to share and an informal cook up was had. Thank you to all those who cooked a meal it as always was delicious.

Our merry band sat around chatting and telling tall tales before we all made our way off to bed by about 2300.

Sunday 27th September dawn with the campsite shrouded in a thick mist/fog. Whilst we waited for this to burn off we all had brekky and several cups of coffee/tea before I went out and setup the gymkhana events for the day. Also, the arrival of BillSTS and Lisa for the day’s events.

The gymkhana events were as follows:

Target Practice - A Small weight attached via a snatch block to the bull bar of a 4WD must be landed onto a mat. The aim of this challenge is to land the weight in the circle in 3 attempts.

WPC Basketball - Teams must approach each basket are allowed 3 attempts before they must move on. Teams are not allowed to climb the trees or the vehicle. Points will be accrued for each miss

Patrol Golf - The PVC Pipe is attached on the passenger side from bullbar to side mirror. Passenger guides the driver to line up the pipe and bucket once the vehicle is stopped the passenger rolls a golf ball down the pipe into the bucket. The team is allowed five shots at each hole before they must move on.

I gathered all of our group together and gave a briefing. We had five teams compete as follows:

Team 1 – Sbrair and Irene
Team 2 – BigCol and Lisa
Team 3 – Tim and Chris
Team 4 – SKEM and Estella
Team 5 – IsuzuDave and Rina

Teams 2 and 4 did not exchange drivers for reasons accepted by the judge.

The first event target practice saw Sbrair and Irene take and early lead with good clear communication and a well laid out plan.

All of the participants watched their opponents and discussed ways to do it better or how to copy the car before them, almost all of the combatants stated that it looked easier than it was.

Both participants and spectators all had a good laugh and a lot of fun was had by all.

The events ran until approximately 1400 with a break for lunch at about 1200. On completion we regrouped back at the camp kitchen where after we all had a suitable refreshment we got stuck into the quiz of 60 questions and this is where the playing field was levelled.

In the end and in the famous words of ‘The Highlander’ “There can be only ONE”.

The winner of the 2020 WPC Gymkhana and holders of the “Marj Jarick Perpetual Trophy” is Sbrair and Irene. Congratulations.

BigCol and Lisa finished second with SKEM and Estella third.

The winner of the Quiz was IsuzuDave and Rina.

On completion of the presentation we all started cooking dinner and this saw BillSTS and Lisa and Tim (He had Honey Does – Honey do this and Honey do that) all head for home.

The remainder settled in for more chatting and friendly banter before heading off to bed.

Monday 28th saw Dman, Sbrair, Irene, Chris, IsuzuDave and Rina all head off home. The remainder of sat around and relaxed.

Tuesday 29th was a hive of activity with people packing up and cleaning of the facilities before we all headed home after a great weekend with an awesome group of people.

Those that attended can attest that this weekend is a lot of fun and will be continuing as an annual event.

Thank you to all those who did attend and participated also to my helper for the weekend DMan  thank you my friend.
I apologise for the weekend not going as streamlined as I had originally planned due to my late arrival. But all in all, I consider this trip to have been a success.

I hope to more people at next year’s event.

If you have pictures please post them up and feel free to add to the words I have put together.

Thank you all once again for help make this a successful event/trip.

Congrats to the winners and Bravo Zulu to Budds and Dman

Spewin' that fate intervened to have all the Jaricks either working or in Covid Isolation so none of us could get there this year.

Marj loved this type of trip, would take a nuke to prise here away from the "chatathon" each evening.
...

If it's Tourist Season why is it illegal to shoot 'em?.

"3 Tits... Awesome"

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!

I'm not having a second childhood, I'm stuck in my first one.

Not to get technical...but according to chemistry alcohol is a solution.
Many Bothans died to bring you this information.

Dear alcohol,
We had a deal where you would make me funnier, smarter, and a better dancer. I saw that video. We need to talk...
