Dwellingup Day Trip - Sunday 24th May 2020
« on: 25 May, 2020, 05:13:39 AM »
Im not sure who was suppose to do the trip report (I think we arrived second last), but I would just like to say a HUGE THANKS to Ropes for taking the trip leader position. Even though we were supposed to be leading, we honestly had no idea where we were going (we probably would have ended up in Albany), but Ropes had all the knowledge.

Here's my take on day.....

The SteveNDee clan, minus one little MiniDee (she had a better offer), packed up the GQ when Dee got home from work & hit the road. Maccas run!! While cruising towards Kwinana Southbound, we hear a 'Dee you on comms' come over the UHF. Low & behold, Kinang has joined us on the freeway from his offramp, and followed us into the BP to fill up.
While we did the Maccas run, Kinang took off to Pinjarra bakery for goodies.

SteveNDee arrived at the grass area across from the pub, just before Kinang did, to find a group of morning travellers waiting for us. We said hello to, Big Col, Mike Jolley, Kylie & Nev, Ropes & Lisa & Bill (who unfortunately couldn't come with us). Five minutes later Kinang pulls in and then Brody, his partner and their 2 German Shepherd puppies (too cute!).
Total of 6 cars, 11 members/guests & 2 puppies.

After handing over the reins to Ropes, we left the grass area in front of the Hotham Valley train, and set off past Lane Poole reserve towards to Captain Fawcett track entry (which does have a big sign!).  Pulling over a bit on the track, it was time to air down.

Airing down was finished and we were off! Up the Fawcett track, passing a few 4x4's on their way out, we continued on until Ropes found us a baby hill to go up....so we did, then Ropes found us another little area to play, so we did, and thennn he found a great big mudhole to play in....anddd only Brody did. And he wasn't going to let it beat him, even if it meant denting some chrome. Having made it thru the mudhole, we headed off towards Muddy Flats to park up for lunch. We turned left onto Driver road, then right into the Muddy Flats.

Parking up & awnings out, everyone grab a bite to eat and had a stretch of the legs.

Paking up, we headed back out and turned right onto Driver Road. Coming to the t- junction, it was decided to turn left. Unfortunately, left didnt pan out, so a 10 point turn was needed to turn around and go the 'right' way.
We needed yo make one last stop at a longdrop for the ladies of the group, otherwise there might have been a riot! So a 'pp' stop was requested and fullfilled. ;D

As we got closer to Baden Powell, the rain started coming down and the wind picked up a little. We pulled into the day area at Baden Powell and aired up the tyres. Had a yarn in the rain, all said our goodbyes, and headed our ways home, after enjoying a great (and much needed) day out.

On a personal note, we love the Dwellingup area, so driving thru the trees, especially in the rain, is always a winner for us. So I hope everyone enjoyed the day, thank you to everyone for coming out.

you forgot one of the "highlight"s of the trip

after the photographer had fun taking "happy snaps" of Brody playing in the mud, we carried on for about 5 mins, before someone asked the question over the 2way

"did anyone pick up the photographer, or is she still sitting there alone?"
DID YOU KNOW......Great Northern Highway links Western Australia's capital city Perth with its northernmost port, Wyndham. With a length of almost 3,200 kilometres (2,000 mi), it is the longest highway in Australia
