Kalgoorlie Desert Race 2020 - 22nd to 25th October
« on: 02 July, 2020, 08:01:45 AM »

It’s official, the KDR is on for 2020 and is set to be Australia’s largest off road race for the year.

With over 260 pre registrations the Kalgoorlie Desert Race is going to be bigger than ever!

This year we have some exciting changes as well…

Thursday Night: Street Party has a new location, more facilities, more parking and is more family friendly.

Friday: Recon, prologue and Top Ten Shoot Out under lights at the track.

Saturday: Lap 1 & 2

Sunday: Lap 3, early finish and an even bigger and better presentation dinner.

This year will also see even bigger media coverage, in conjunction with Front Row Screens we will be expanding the live streaming of the entire race, Peregrine Precision Aerial Photography along with members of the Dakar Press Team will be covering photography for the event and Lensnation Studio will be looking after the event video coverage for us.

Description:

The Kalgoorlie Desert Race was known as the Kalgoorlie 400 which had been part of the WAORC and a national round. This year's race will be Round 6 of the WAORC. It will be held over 3 days consisting of Bikes, Quads, Buggies, Trophy Trucks and Side by Sides. The race course is over 150km long with at least 13 checkpoints. It was built in 2018. Some of the checkpoints are also controlled passages over main roads. We may also need additional recovery vehicles due to the extended track! This is to be confirmed.

Roles to be filled:

Checkpoint Controllers
Duties of checkpoint controllers (no experience required!):
• Record the vehicles as they come past the checkpoint
• Crowd control to prevent spectators from getting too close or crossing the live race track
• Report to base which vehicles have come through when required
• Control traffic as required
• Inform Race Control if vehicles have not gone through the checkpoints or if there are any other incidents that could affect the safety of drivers, spectators and officials
• May need to provide some assistance to drivers if recovery teams are too far away
• Keep public traffic off the race track

About checkpoints:
Some checkpoints are quite isolated where you'll be the only ones there unless the recovery teams come past while others will have spectators and traffic control. Isolated checkpoints will require at least 2 people while the busier checkpoints will require at least 4 people.
Check Point radios will be installed on arrival or the earliest opportunity by Goldfields Off Road

As this is a CAMS event it is advisable to become a CAMS Accredited Official

Question you follow that link to become a CAMS Accredited Official but from there what/where are you selecting to find the free accreditation.

Do you click on 'how do I get started or register with Motor Sport Australia'?

So if I select register with MSA and complete the registration form, then your directed to like your homepage with options. Select online training, courses, officials, am I choosing An Introduction to CAMS Officiating??

Help appreciated thanks :)

Neville and I have pre-registered for this event, pop us down.

I've completed 'An Introduction to CAMS Officiating (today) and Bronze - Off Road Official (last year). Nev will do course(s) once off night shift.

Let me know if these aren't the correct :)

I've just moved to North Bunbury so have been a little too pre occupied to start making that plan.

Mr and Mrs Rusty (and possibly Brother in law) are planning a run up on Thursday to setup camp, go get radio fitted and possibly stay around for the street party.
Then plans are to stay Sunday night in the bush and head back lazily on Monday (despite the racing ending earlier on Sunday).

My CAMS ID is 1907281 (Licence Type OFF-GENERAL) if that maters.
If you do much the same as last year, I'll probably meet you at Tammin on Thursday evening, and leave Monday morning as well... maybe Sunday arvo if you're all misbehaving.. ;)
