Dwellingup Explorer MK II
« on: 31 May, 2017, 10:31:32 PM »
So, after a rescheduling of the trip and some last-minute organising Saturday finally rolled around, loading up the ute with gear and then stopping past Bunnings to grab a couple of bags of Firewood it was time to hit the frog and toad and make my way to the meet up point at the servo on the corner of South West Hwy and Del Park Road.
One last quick stop in Jarrahdale to fill up the tanks with some diesel and finally arriving at the Servo around 11:30am to find a waiting Paul and Tiala waiting patiently. No one else was expected to arrive so we commenced up Del Park road before yours truly realised he had forgot to get a newspaper so a quick call on the UHF about an unplanned stop in Dwellingup to get the paper.

After a brief discussion with the rangers we proceeded on to the Baden Powell camp site and located the sites and proceeded to setup.

Leaving the Kinangís to sort out their tent I proceeded to get the fire started as it was pretty cold under the canopy. Some stories were told when we deliberated whether to go for a drive or not before Jorge arrived. The fire was too inviting so a few drinks were enjoyed around the fire and before long Jorge arrived and got himself setup. More drinks and stories including dinner were enjoyed before AB Finally arrived where a few more drinks and stories were told.
Waking up the next morning and finding the fire going again was a welcome site as it was freezing first thing in the morning. Breakfast/Coffee was enjoyed before packing up the site and as much time as possible was spent around the fire. Jorge bided farewell as he had some kids to attend to and the rest of us headed towards the Captain Fawcett Track.
Based on my previous experience with the start of the track being flat as a tack I was a bit hesitant and turning onto the track it seemed nothing had changed since my last visit. We Aired down and I reached a point on my last trip where we detoured off the Fawcett track and was considering taking that detour before going off on a track we didnít take last time.

I kept to the original plan and kept going along the Fawcett after hearing good things in the past and we were eventually rewarded with a track that offered some stubby leaver fun to be had with plenty of mud, nothing to challenging that required winches or snatch straps but it was easy to see how the track would be a lot more challenging in a month or so after more rain.

Plans were made to come back in a month and do a day trip to see how it had changed.
We took the track through to Driver Road before heading back into Dwellingup to Air up where I discovered that I had leak from the bead on one of my tyres. Time to put the spare on and proceeded to change it. The Kinangís bided farewell and headed of back to Perth and AB stuck around to give me a hand with the tyre change.

Thanks to everyone that came along.

Pleased you all had a good time.  I was expecting to be down on the Murray last Sunday running a white water safety course for Avon Descent entrants, but the river levels fell away from mid week onwards to levels too low to make the trip viable. Until we get some decent rains nothing has sufficient flow at the moment.
