Just to keep everybody happy. A few things learned that will result in some minor rethinking of the M&G in November, but overall a great trip and day out. No damage and a good time had by all. I am sure AB will post when he has the time. Thanks for a great day out AB.

Thanks AB for the trip, apologies to all for being too observant with signage!
Looking forward to hearing the last part of the trip that I missed out on :(

So how come you complained that the dust was so bad that you could not see the Patrol in front of you, but you could see a "do not enter" sign at 500 metres?  ;D

Description:  The purpose of this trip was to explore and set a suitable route for the WPC Meet and Greet scheduled for Sunday 27th November.

Outcomes: the journey as planned has several challenging factors to be addressed before and to be considered on the day.  It is not, in my view, an ideal journey for the purposes of a Meet & Greet Day.   That said, it is an interesting journey and a variant of it should not be ruled out for the Meet & Greet Day.
  • Exiting Kaarakin with right hand turn onto Mills Road East.  Bends up and down Mills Road East hide oncoming traffic.  Will need to make use of the truck stops up the road to reform a trip convoy(s).
DPAW access permit if passing through Helena National Park from Dale Rd to Nockine Road.
Dust.  Lots of it.  Dust will be a problem for conveys greater than 5 vehicles.
    Gravel roads.  Some soft edges.
Motorcyclists.  Be on the lookout for fast travelling bikes/quads on the gravel/dirt roads.
Planned forest burns.  Check ahead and on the day.
Wildfires.  Check ahead and on the day.
Total fire bans.  Access may be restricted on highest fire risk days.  Check ahead and on the day.
Lunch location.  Not yet determined.  The “Hills Forest Village” (Not it’s right name but that visitors complex opposite Kookaburra Outdoor Cinema, Allen Road, Mundaring Weir is ideal for a large group.  However, the planned route would see the convoy arrive at Mundaring ~ 3pm in my estimate.

Here’s my log.   All times after Mount Dale are approximate (+/- 15 minutes).
10.00am.  Kaarakin meet up.  Paper work, trip briefing and vehicle checks.
10.45am.  Depart Kaarakin for Mount Dale Look Out.  Tarmac until part way along Dale Road.
11:30am.  Arrive at Mount Dale Look Out.  Approx 10 minute stop.  Parking bays for ~ 10 vehicles.  Any more will be parking alongside the road.
11:45am.  The track on which we intended to pass from Dale Road to Darkin Ridge Road has a CALM permitted access only sign.  Hence, we cannot proceed with our plan to pass through Helena National Forest to Nockine Road to the east.  We back track to Dale Road and make our way to Mundaring Weir via Ashendon Road.
1:15pm.  Arrive at Hills Forest Village” (Not it’s right name but that visitors complex opposite Kookaburra Outdoor Cinema, Allen Road, Mundaring Weir and stop for lunch.
2:00pm.  Depart Mundaring Weir heading north.  Use McCallum Road to get to the water tank at the western end of the Power Lines Track.   Air down the tyres.
2:20pm.  Set off heading east along the Power Lines Track.  We make the intersection with Chidlow Road without misadventure.
3:00pm.  South using Chidlow Road.  Aiming to get to Nockine Rock.  From Chidlow, left turn onto Firewood Road.
3:40pm.  Firewood Road intersection with Gorrie Road.  Determine not to proceed as I estimate another two hours in the forests IF we were to proceed to Nockine Rock.  We use Gorrie Road, Oak George Road and finally Chidlow Road to exit the forest to Great Eastern Highway about 300 metres to the east of Mundaring Marksman Range.
4:15pm.  End of trip called. Air types up.  Thank yous and goodbyes said.  Memories created and interests piqued.

Was a great day thanks AB. Most favourite part was the Mundaring powerlines but also enjoyed the trip through the picturesque forest. Thanks again

FYI to all.
DPAW have today confirmed to me that it was a current Disease Risk Area through which I intended, but didn't, travel.
Thank you, Jorge, for spotting the sign.
